"Michael Lewis with Yeshuas Ryu martial arts, on behalf of Expert Village. We're here today to cover the sai. Now we're covering strikes and stabs. There's many different ways to strike with your sais in both positions, whether it running down your arm or flipped out. Now from it flipped over so that the knob end is pointed along your pointer finger, you can use that as a strike. And you can strike pretty much because of this, you can strike to anywhere on the body and cause damage. This end here that points out, for instance if he throws a strike and I block, I can come through with this end here and actually stab or just strike across the body like you would with an elbow strike, and that way with that metal side you can possibly, if you strike hard enough, you can split somebody's face. From the other position, obviously you can use it as a stab technique with the longer stem. You can also use the shorter stems to stab into places like the throat, where you're able to get around. As far as the hook goes, you can also, if you flip it back to the other position where it's running along your arm, you can hook into the back of the head and that is another stabbing technique that you can use, into the back of the neck. Now these weapons here are not very practical, but they do help train, train your mind to be able to work with a different type of weapon, and it helps in order to expand your repertoire as far as your self defense goes. So again, you can throw strikes with the ball end of the weapon, you can strike anywhere. Because it is metal is will damage any part of the body. You can use this end, with elbow strikes, so that you can strike and also stab afterwards. Flipping it over to the other position, you can stab with the longer stem and the two prongs. Keep in mind that if you do stab with the longer prong, most of the time you'll see in traditional martial arts because of the nature of this move is that you will stab into the other sai and you use it to push off, and pull out so that that way you can actually get your weapon back. So those are just a couple of stabs and strikes with the sais."
