"Michael Lewis with Yeshuas Ryu martial arts, on behalf of Expert Village. We're here today to cover the sai. Now we?re covering blocks with your sais. Again, the two basic basic positions, running along your arm or flipping it over, both of them, both positions can be used for blocking. This way here, you have it running along your arm so if he throws a strike tot he outside, I can block here, and also protect my arm. Also this hook here allows me to hook around and be able to finish him off. Also, if I have it flipped out and he throws that same strike, I can come in and still block the weapon. This way I can just turn the sai and I have a little bit of control over his weapon. Again, make sure when you're throwing these blocks with the long part of the stem out that you're covering up your thumb, so that if it's over he does not strike your thumb and possibly break it. Now if he is throwing again that high block, we'll go for the high block. He's throwing that high block here, this hook, like I said before, you can hook in and grab. Also, if you throw an X block here, you can also hook into the weapon and therefore take it, take it down in this manner so you can finish him off again. So the different blocks that you have are from the both positions are very very basic. Again that you keep your thumb behind the knot so that it doesn't get damaged and of course this way, you definitely want to make sure that you're pressing it up against your arm so that it's not hanging loose, so that if someone does throw a strike that pushes it off the side. So you use your pointer finger to keep it pressed up against your arm so that way if he throws that strike again and throws it hard, you're able to block that strike, and block it with a lot of confidence. So those are just two of your real basic, basic blocks for your sai."
