"Michael Lewis here with Christian Martial Arts on behalf of Expert Village. We're going over today how to break boards with your hands. Now, one of the biggest questions must be, well why do we even break boards in the first place? Well breaking boards trains in several different areas. Number one, it teaches you to conquer your fear of throwing a punch. So, many people, they look at this board and they're sort of scared of actually throwing a strike because they're afraid they might break their hand. So what it does is it actually trains the person to overcome their fears so that when they throw a strike and they actually penetrate it through, it's building their confidence. And they start to realize, really, how dangerous some of those strikes and techniques are to martial arts. So it makes them a little bit more conscience when they do work with somebody else. Also, it trains you to use proper technique. When you strike a board and you strike it incorrectly, it's definitely going to hurt and can cause some injuries. So it's a little bit harder way of learning how to throw a correct technique. How to actually throw proper technique. Also, you're learning to strike through the board. And that way you're learning to develop more power. And so, as you're sparring with somebody or whatever it may be, you're in a self-defense situation, if you throw a surface strike at them, it's not going to do any damage. So if you want to actually be able to defend yourself you're going to have to learn to strike through your opponent. And the best way to do that without hurting anyone in training is starting out with the board."
