"Michael Lewis with Yeshuya's Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of the Expert Village. We're going over today how to break boards with your feet. As we mentioned before, striking through the board is a great way of conquering your fear. When you first start out board breaking is very intimidating, go up to a piece of wood and actually think about breaking it. So if I was going to break it with a front kick, just to demonstrate, when I kick the board, I'm not going to stop right at the board. I'm going to actually visualize kicking through. Another thing that's going to help with that is that you also get your stance right and make sure that you have plenty enough distance. So if I'm too far away and I throw my kick and it just barely touches the board or just penetrates like an inch past the board there's a possibility you will not break it. So when you set up for a board break, make sure that you throw a few practice kicks past the board that you have plenty of space to kick through. Also, when you're kicking through, make sure that the board holder is also safe, that when you're kicking through, you'll be able to go through the board without hitting the arm or the fingers. Now accuracy, kicking a board, is a little bit less accurate than using your hand, so another thing when you're kicking with your feet and you're penetrating the board, make sure again that your board holder is safe."
