"Michael Lewis with Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts on behalf of the Expert Village. We're going over today how to break boards with your feet. One of the most important things when you're starting to break boards is safety and again when you punch a board you cannot pull back. When you kick a board you cannot pull back. That's also going to cause a lot of injuries so when you're kicking a board, make sure again to punch straight through. It's very, very easy to begin to kick at a board or punch at a board to break it and injure yourself by not kicking correctly, by twisting your foot a little bit too much or by pulling back. So the best way to start out is to start out on a bag to perfect your technique. Technique is probably the most vital thing in order for you to be able to execute a correct board break. So to get started start training on a focus pad or on a heavy weight bag. Focus your kicks into the bag and make sure that you have the proper technique. Next you can work yourself, work your way up to a few harder surfaces. When you work your way up to that the next thing you know you'll be working yourself towards a board. When you begin to kick the board also make sure that the person that's holding it is also very comfortable and that they are a competent board holder."
