Well for several different reasons number 1 it is helping to condition your hands or your feet which ever one you are using. So you are actually training your fist or training your kit and strengthen those techniques. You actually strengthening your foot and also sort of roughing up your foot. So you are actually are not so sensitive. If you are in a defense situation and you struck somebody by the chin it would hurt. So what you would do is begin to condition your feet so when you throw that kit it would not hurt as much. One of the other reasons is to protect your technique. The boards are very unforgiving so that sort of forces you when you know you are front kicking you must throw it correctly in order to break the board. So this actually forces you to use the correct technique. Another reason why cause it is helping your to conquer your fear. When you are breaking the board it is very easy to get scared and pull away in the last second. Instead what you want to do is be able to kick at the board but through the board. Through that you would begin to conquer your fear."
