How to Position Your Bike Properly Before Packing It

In this clip, I am going to be showing you how to now protect the rest of the bike; the frame, the forks and the crane. Pretty much anything that you do want to keep protected and not scratched up, you are going to want to put some of the materials around like I said and you can either use towels, plastic, cardboard, they sell foam pieces at hardware stores, pretty much any material you want that you think will keep the bike safe and not get scratched up when it ships. If you do have trouble finding this when you do go pick up a bike box at your bike shop, you can also ask them for some packing materials. Usually they will save some in case they have to ship a bike or if they do dissemble a bike to give you a box. You can just ask for the materials off of that bike. So I am going to show you a couple of different spots around the bike where you would definitely want to protect. The good spot to put the packing material is always around the frame decals and that way you don't have ever have to mess up your frame decals because a lot of times that it is one of the most important parts of your bike frame. When you are putting the packing material on the top tube of your bike, you want to make sure too that you get at least one layer of some thin foam or rubber underneath the cables because that way if you put it on top of the cables, they will be pressing out against the frame and you will wear out your paint like this so if you do get a layer underneath it like that, and you can secure it and then put another layer on top of the cables. Another place you may decide that you want to put some extra packing material around too is your crank arms and these will be a little bit harder to do with like a big piece of foam but if you do have a material from the bike shop that they give you one that comes on the bike, then these perfect little pieces of cardboard here that slide right on to protect both sides of the crank arm.
