"The Tai Chi 18 movement Chan style routine is based on many Tai Chi principles. Some of these principles are the principles of internal and external connection. In a traditional Chinese Tai Chi theory, there are six harmonies that are talked about, and three of those harmonies are the external harmonies. These harmonies are between the different body parts. There's supposed to be a connection, a visceral connection between the hands and the feet, the elbow and the knees, and the shoulders and the hips. As one practices one's Tai Chi, you step out into a position, you want to feel the connection between those body parts. So, as I move back, I can feel my left elbow and my left knee connecting. Moving forward, my right elbow and my right knee connecting. As we move that forward into Buddha's attendant pounds mortar. Again, as we lift up here, the right knee and the right elbow are connected, and the shoulder and the hip are made connected. These are the three external harmonies and these are extremely important in creating a correct structure and connection through Tai Chi movement as a Tai Chi movement is more than just stance. It is the flow between from movement to movement."
