"Hi, I?m Mandy Butler on behalf of Expert Village, I?m going to be taking you through some backhand spring drills and some techniques to help you on your way to mastering the backhand spring. Now I?m going to do a back handspring on a tumble track. The reason that I have start my athletic on a tumble track rather than taking them straight to the floor is because a tumble track is a lot easier on the joints. If they do have a tendency to bend their arms it is not really going to result in injury typically it still could but typically not on a tumble track because it is much more forgiving surface. Also a tumble track is a great confidence builder. You get that muscle memory; you get familiar session of going upside down and backwards. By the time you take that to the floor you are much more ready than if you have just rushed over. A lot of gymnastic injuries stand from people not being physiologically ready on bailing on their skills half way through. So I?m going to start out on a tumble track and I?m going to do a backhand spring."
