"In this clip, we're going to talk about the basic advancements in safety with the bar and the safety leash. Any time you're using a new kite these days, you want to make sure that you're attaching a safety leash to it before you actually go out on the water. That safety leash is probably going to be attached to a certain part on your harness. Either a little ring on the side or like this instance on this harness there is a handle pass leash here. So, if you're actually doing unhooked aerial maneuvers where like, a mobius for instance, you're passing the handle behind your back, this kind of a system actually allows the leash to travel from side to side so, you know, you get a little bit more mobility with it. One thing we've been really trying to stress is, you know, how well you should maintain your gear. But, you know, you're not going to be able to avoid an accident sometimes. Sometimes, you know things just happen and there's nothing you can do about it. So, making sure that you have the appropriate safety gear to handle that accident accordingly when it happens is just an absolute must-do essential for this sport. So, for instance, quick releases. When I go out kite surfing, I have two quick releases just in case anything goes on. I'll attach my safety leash to the chicken loop line here so, you know, even if I let go of the kite, I'm still attached to it, it's not going to go flying away. However, if I need to unhook from the kite, you know, I'll be hooked in right here with my spreader bar with the bar and I can just push on this quick release, there's usually an arrow on it, and watch, I push out on it and that's it. I'm no longer attached to the kite. However, some kites make it so that if you detach from that quick release on the chicken loop, you're still going to be attached on your safety leash. This is good because if you mean to do this, you know, you're not going to leave your kite. But, if it actually happens, then you know you can't really control the situation and always remember, you are more important, your life is more important than that kite is. So, if you've got to get rid of it, get rid of it. Don't be afraid to pull that final quick release and just let it go. Hopefully, some guy down the beach is going to be kind enough to, you know, to handle the kite for you, but always remember, you know, you don't want to be that guy who went through that kitemare and got airlifted out to a hospital because, you know, you're too stubborn and didn't want to ruin your kite. Well, guess what, you might have just ruined your life. So use quick releases, use safety leashes and know how they work and, you know, practice this before you go out."
