Series Summary

Skiing has been a popular sport for over a century; it's fun, exciting, and a great workout. Skiing, like most sports however, evolved into other forms, creating new kinds of winter sports. Snowboarding is one of those offshoots. It became popular in the late 1970's and early 80's because of men like Dimitrije Milovich, Jake Burton, and Tom Sims. They were just a few of the early snowboarding pioneers who took a hobby and turned it into the gigantic sport it is today. It was not until 1985 that snowboarding was officially declared a sport, and since then it has been a staple sport of Winter Olympic Games.

In this free video series, expert snowboard trickster Matt Vansteenis shows you how to perform the basic and favorite snowboard tricks. "MATT VANSTEENIS: Hi. My name is Matt Vansteenis on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to learn how to snowboard the terrain park here at beautiful Mt. Brighton in Brighton, Michigan. All right, on this clip we're going to talk about doing some flat land tricks. So let's start off with the manual first. So it's an old skateboard trick and we kinda took it to the snow. It's really easy all you do is you get strapped in, you find where your going straight or where you'd like to go, and on your back leg you just go lean back, sit back and bring the front up. Keep your weight kinda over your back binding. Kinda straighten up the front leg a little bit more and keep your back leg really back. That's how you do a manual. And make it look all super styley and just keep going and you put your nose back down and ride away clean."
