Video Transcript

"So, have you ever wondered where the jump rope actually came from? Like how people here in America started jumping rope? Well, I did a little research, and actually, the first concrete evidence of a jump rope was found in medieval paintings where children were jumping rope down the cobblestone streets in Europe. And also, explorers in the early days quoted that they saw Aborigines jumping rope with vines when they were exploring. And then, there's also the tale of Ancient Egyptians jumping rope, and that dates back to 1600 A.D. So it's really not known when people started jumping rope, but we know throughout history that jump rope has existed in some way, in some form. And also, it's funny how now in America jumping rope seems like a child's game. That's what people think sometimes. Or that jumping rope is for girls. But, actually, in ancient times, jumping rope was a ritual that only men could do, so women were not allowed to jump rope. But now that we come back here, we know that jump rope is a great activity that adults can do, and we also know that boxers and wrestlers use a jump rope to really maintain their cardio strength. So we know there are so many benefits to jumping rope, and it's not just for kids, and it's not just for girls. So we're going to add a great jump rope routine in an exercise for you today."
