"Hi! My name is Leta and I am an yoga instructor at School of Yoga in Pittsburgh. First I would like to say congratulations on your pregnancy. I am glad that you are looking into prenatal yoga. I encourage you to talk to your physician before you begin this or any exercise program. I really enjoy teaching prenatal yoga for a number of reasons. The first is that not only did I get to work with my student but I also get to work with their babies and I really like to make that connection. I think prenatal yoga is wonderful on a couple of levels. First of all it is a low impact form of exercise, so as compared to aerobics or running or something that that can be really hard in the body, prenatal yoga is very gentle to the body. A lot of the hip opening and stretches are that we are going to do today are really nice to help to prepare your body for being in position that you will be in for labor. We are also going to practice some breathing meditations that you can use to help you stay calm, relaxed and focussed during labor and I would like you to keep in mind a quote from who said what a child learns in the womb cannot be learned on earth and a lot of times we prepare for the birth of a child by painting a room or buying a lot of different equipment for the baby and planning for the baby’s arrival, but really the baby is here now. The baby is inside you and your body is the baby’s house. So creating a really warm, a safe, a calm, a healthy home for your baby you can start right now and you can use prenatal yoga to achieve that."
