"Hi! I'm Lucy Spain on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to show you some cheerleading squad cheers today. We're going to talk about chants and I'm going to demonstrate some that you can take to your squad. Once we've mastered the volume and pronunciation of words in our cheer, we're going to have to set them to a speed. Most of the time you want to keep your speed pretty slow on a beat. Also, we don't want it to be boring, but we don't want it to be so fast that everyone is blending together. It's usually going to be up to the captain to set the speed of the cheer. Also, if you're on a co-ed squad, it's definitely important to dedicate a male who can keep control of the speed. Males have a prominent deeper voice. If they start getting off track, then the girls are going to get sucked into it. We're going to have a whole bunch of different voices going on at all different speeds. It's really not going to go well. We all want to seem like we're one voice. It's really important to get a tape recorder. You're going to want to do your cheers the speed that they're supposed to. This is usually going to be recorded by the captain, both male and female. Once we get that, we need to let each girl take it home and have a chance with it so you can go over the speed in your head. If we're at a game and someone starts to throw off the cheer, it's really important to make quick eye contact and make sure we get back on track with the speed. If we're going at all different levels, the whole cheer is going to get thrown off. That's going to throw off the motions and everything is going to be messed up. It's really important to stay in unison and set a steady speed that everyone can keep up with."
