How to Show School Spirit at Cheerleading Tryouts

"Hi my name is Lucy Spain on behalf of Expert Village here to talk about an introduction to cheerleading. Another important factor when trying out for cheerleading is showing spirit. Now it's really important to remember when we show spirit, it's not appropriate to yell, woohoowee. We're not cows, we're not fire engines, we're not here to woohoo, nobody really wants to hear that. So you need to make sure you do some research, find out your school's colors, find out your mascot, definitely a number one to stick to, that's pretty universal. You can also personalize it and find out your team's quarterback's first name. Use that, throw it in there, team numbers are a good way to go as well. Some appropriate ways to show spirit are first and foremost, we do a little number one sign. Everyone's familiar with the spirit fingers, those can get the crowd going. Also appropriate if you want to throw in some high kicks. It's also appropriate to do jumping and tumbling, which you'll learn after you make the squad. First and foremost, just remember, clapping is a good way to get the crowd going. We can get them involved with some clapping. And also, whenever you take the floor, you're going to want to start off your cheerleading floor and definitely step into it, showing a little bit of spirit, lots of number ones, lots of hand movements. Just remember first and foremost, keep smiling, because that's where your best spirit's going to shine through."
