"This is Kyle Hovercamp from Skatechurch in Portland, Oregon. On behalf of Expert Village, this is the tutorial of how to learn how to ollie on your skateboard. I'm going to be showing you how to clear distances when you ollie. Distance is really how high you ollie plus speed, and that determines how far you go. The reason that you'd want to go far on a ollie is like gaps or stairs you have to clear them, and you have to be going fast to clear them. We set this table on the ground. It's about 5 feet long and I'm going to try to ollie over it. In order for me to ollie over it, I have to not only ollie high but I have to be going fast. The higher that I ollie and the faster that I go, the more of a distance that I will clear. As you can see, I had to go really fast and ollie really high to clear this. When there's an onject actually in front of you it forces you to go faster or ollie higher to get over it. If you're going to practice distances, then you should for sure have something in front of you to ollie over. Just like height, what we talked about earlier. A couple of things that you could practice to get distance ollies on, stair sets. First start at like a 2 stair maybe. Work your way up to a 3 stair and to a 4 stair. You have to go faster the higher the set is so you can clear it. You have to be very comfortable with how fast you go because not only are you ollieing going fast down the stair set, but when you land you're still going fast so you have to be really comfortable or you'll fall."
