"Hi, I'm Kevin speaking on behalf of Expert Village on hiking. Hiking typically burns between 3,000 and 4,000 calories a day. At that rate of consumption, many hikers find that the most they can get calorie wise into their body is about 2,600 calories. Often this is because they make a mistake in the type of things they want to bring. They rely on sandwiches and items like that and where sandwiches do provide carbohydrates and a little bit of protein, they don't adequately supply you with enough calories. Hiking is a strenuous activity, it's one of the more enjoyable activities, it's noncompetitive. If you can walk up two flights of stairs, you're probably not in good enough condition to do anything more than a very gentle slow paced walk along a leveled path."
