"Hi, I'm Kevin speaking on behalf of Expert Village on hiking. If you're going to do a day hike and not stay overnight anywhere, you don't have to bring as much gear, you don't have to bring as much food and you can get away with forgetting a few things. However, if you're doing an overnighter, you're going to want to be much more prepared. Considering where you want to hike is important, considering the weather is important and considering what foods and gear to bring are all important. However, when you arrive at your destination you need to be prepared with several products, non food products. Such as poison ivy medicine or insect repellent and especially sunblock is very important that you wear. Cell phones are a good idea, bring your cell phone. Always follow the rules of any given park that you go to, some parks have rules against cell phones, but most of them are tolerant and allow cell phones."
