"JOHNNY MILES: In this clip we're going to talk about chipping around the green. In Florida, especially with Bermuda fringes, you want to, if you have a good chipping stroke, eliminate putting off of the fringe especially when the grain is growing in to you. Too many bad things can happen in this four-foot area to knock your ball off line or cause it to lose its speed that will result in a bad chip or a bad putt. So what I like for you to do, what I like to do, is I just eliminate this, pick an area just on to the green and take a very less lofted club to get this ball chipped onto the green and rolling like a putt as soon as I can. Now I'm pretty close here so I've got my lob wedge, a pitching wedge and a 9-iron. Seeing I'm so close, I don't have to fly it very far and I want this putt to roll or this shot to roll like a putt. I'm going to take a 9-iron, place it back in my stance, pick out that spot where I want it to land then have it start rolling like a putt to the hole. Okay, now by hitting a low-running shot that's like a putt, I'm able to control my golf ball better than if I putted it through this stuff, or worse yet took too much loft and pitched it too high in the air and it didn't release or it released too much. Roll is much easier to judge so when you can, take a less lofted club, chip it over the fringe and get it rolling like a putt as soon as you can."
