"JOHNNY MILES: In this clip, we're going to go over a fairway bunker shot. I've hit my tee shot a little too long off the tee. I find myself in a fairway bunker about 120 yards from the hole. Now, I have a pretty good lie. First and foremost, I have to figure out how much loft am I going to need to have to get it over whatever lift is in front of me. This one is relatively benign, not a very big lift, so I don't have to worry about it too much, and it's also only 120 yards which is normally a pitching wedge for me. Okay? What I'm going to do differently than most people in a fairway bunker is I am going to set up to it nice and tall. Dig my feet in just a little bit to get a feel for the sand, but I'm going to keep myself nice and tall and try to hit this ball with a very shallow angle of attack. I found through personal experience, most bunkers, not tour bunkers, they're a lot firmer, but most bunkers that golfers play are a little mushy. They give way. And if you're hitting it with a very steep angle of attack, you can press the ball on a pile of fluffy sand and the ball just bloops out. So you're better off setting up into it a little bit taller and try to pick it or just catch it with a very shallow angle of attack. So I'll take a little flex out of my knees, keep my chin up and try to just kind of clip it right off the top of the ground. I got about a 15-footer; I'd say I did pretty good."
