Hi, I’m Kate I’m here with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of Expert Village and we’re going to talk about hiking today. We’re going to be talking about hiking food. If you’re going on a couple night trip or if you’re just going for the day, food is a pretty important thing to have with you. I like to have a lot of things for snacks, trail mix that’s high in calorie that has salty stuff in it and it has chocolate in it in simple carbohydrates, that’s really good to have. They also sell energy chunks or power bars or cliff bars. These are really good to have, snack on them throughout the day and keep yourself well fed. If you’re staying overnight and you plan on cooking on your stove, the easiest thing to do is boiling water, one pot meals. Don’t want to have too many things going on, so these Lipton meals are great, roman is great and you can always add stuff to it, if you bring it with you. Spices should be a necessity, backpacking food doesn’t necessarily just needs to give you some calories to burn off and you should always have dessert. When you’re hiking and if you’re hiking for a day, 2,000 calories per day. You’re going to be burning off a lot of calories, you’re going to be drinking a lot of water, you should have electrolytes. I like to have drinks with me, these drinks are for cold water, it’s just minerals and vitamins. Those are always tasty when you get sick, if you purified water and then hot chocolate, hot tea drinks, anything at night to keep you warmer, give you a few more calories, some sugar is always great to have with you. If you’re doing lunch and lunch only, peanut butter works great, tuna fish, anything you feel comfortable bring in your backpack for the day. Keep in mind if it’s hot, you don’t want to bring stuff that’s going to go bad and you’re going to have to be packing out all the trash with you. So if you have a can of tuna fish or a can of oysters, you’re going to putting that in your backpack for the rest of the day. So make sure you have plenty of good food to keep yourself happy, fed and you’ll have a good day.
