"Hi, I’m Kate I’m with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com and we’re going to be talking about hiking today. When you’re hiking you’re going to want to make sure you stay found. What I mean by that is that you’ve put an itinerary in the car, you know the area that you’re hiking to, you know the route and the trail you plan on being on, you know what the trail markers are going to look like and you know how many people are going to be with you. You don’t want to get lost out on the trail today, if you do like we discuss earlier, you have whistles. These are really good to use, one blast is just to get somebody’s attention, three blasts is an emergency. So each one of the people in your party, should have a whistle. You should also have a guidebook to know what the terrain is going to be like, what the trail markers are like and what different trail heads mean and what the signs will mean. Some compasses have mirrors so if you do find yourself seriously lost, you can use that with the sun to possibly get people’s attention if you don’t have a whistle. But make sure when you go out, you have a cell phone to get contact with the outside world and you’ve left an itinerary and that should keep you found."
