"Hi, I’m Kate I’m with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com and we’re going to be talking about hiking today. When you’re hiking with a group there’s a few things that you need to know. The first thing is that you’re only going to be as fast as your slowest hiker. You want to be aware of how many people are in your group, so you’re always counting who’s with you and who’s not and you might want to have the slowest person leading you, that way they get to set the pace that’s comfortable for them. Another thing is when you stop to take breaks, generally the people in the front are stopping to wait for the person in the back. When the person in the back finally catches up to you, they’re going to need a break too, they’ve been walking all that way to catch you. So be aware of the accruing effect as you go through the woods. When I’m with a group and I know how many people there are and I’m counting all the time, I like to have people rotate to the front. This way they get to see the front of the trail, it gives them an opportunity to see something besides people’s feet and you want to be aware of that the whole time. People are going to have different views of the trail the whole way up. Take breaks often and make sure everyone in the group gets to take a break too. The slowest person wants to take a break while you guys are waiting for them. So when you’re hiking with a group, just make sure you stick together, you should get lost, you have whistles."
