"My name is Juan Carlos with Expert Village, and today we're going to be talking about softball for beginners. In this segment, we're going to be teaching leading off. In softball, as oppose to baseball, you're given a two step or one step lead, depending on the pitcher's respective amount. In softball, you're not allowed to leave the base until the pitcher lets go of the ball. Technically, we teach our softball players our left foot in the heel position in the front of the bag on the right side of the bag, and the back foot back there as for the head start. The pitcher, as she begins to release the ball around this position, you actually gain an extra step like so. As the pitcher releases the ball, she can actually lead off or possibly steal the base without having to be thrown out automatically by leaving early. "
