Series Summary

Krav Maga is a self defense and hand to hand system of combat developed in Israel. One of the main philosophies in krav maga is the concept of no quarter, which means that no mercy will be given to the loser. The martial art is not considered a sport, and emphasizes real-life lethal threat situations in its training, and as a result there are no uniforms or competitions as in boxing, judo, karate, and jujutsu. Like other martial arts, krav maga utilizes strikes, throws, locks, and kicks, but also uses attacks that are sometimes considered dirty like eye gouging, groin kicks, headbutts, and attacks on other vulnerable body parts.

In this free video series, our expert Julio Rivera will tell you all about krav maga, he will show you how o defend against a front choke, a side choke, and a rear choke. He will teach you how to defend against a bear hug, a wrist grab, and an escrima stick attack. Julio will also show you how to defend against a headlock, a side headlock, and various knife attacks and thrusts. Mr. Rivera will also make sure you know how to stay safe while training in Israeli martial arts.

Video Transcript

"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Julio Rivera. And I am Ricodo Valera. We're here at Premier martial arts in New York City showing you Israeli martial arts. Israelis obviously have been fighting for a long time, fighting has become a way of life that area of the world so many of the young children grow up fighting and enter the army at young age. Israelis are excellent at their martial arts, they have a history of close quarter combat because of the terrain there. The techniques, they require an ability to be done in a tiny space in a confined space. So there aren't any of these huge movements, no huge throws or huge kicks, or huge spinning punches. It's stuff that's a really going to work, and going to work in a tiny tiny space. It's kind of, its grassroots stuff in a way that it breaks everything down there is no superfluous movements no superfluous actions in it, it's stuff that you know is going to get down and dirty and be effective with someone who wants to take your life. It's not about technique it's not about forms, it's about something that's going to work. It's dirty, it's groin shots, its eye shots it's the throat, it's defending against weapons. So when you're talking about Israeli martial arts you're talking about stuff that's really going to work."
