"Hi! I’m Kate with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com talking to you about hiking and backpacking. If you are planning on hiking with a dog in the woods, you need to make sure that they are allowed in the area that you are hiking. Dogs can be great to have with you but they can also be hazardous to have with you. There could be bears on the trail, there could be other hunters on the trail, they could possibly mistake your dog for something that’s not. Besides the fact your dog will be running everywhere, your dog might be a hazard to other people or other things, specifically other animals out in the woods. You want to make sure your dog is with you and if not, if it’s a certain season you might not want your dog at all. So you need to be aware that your dog has things on them that might not hurt your dog but around other baby animals like that fawn, it can give a fawn a disease that would kill it so you need to be very aware of your dog."
