"Hi! I’m Kate and I’m with Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com. I am going to talk to you about hiking and backpacking. When you are backpacking, depending on where you are at, you are going to want to use your rain fly because your tent isn’t water proof. Most of them have netting, making it much more breathable when you sleep at night and this isn’t water proof either but it comes with a rain fly. Rain fly are pretty simple to put on. At the junctions of my tent poles, there is Velcro for the rain fly to attach to. There is Velcro at this junction, there’s Velcro up here and there’s Velcro on the back. You want to attach your Velcro around your tent in every spot that it needs to Velcroed to. Then at the bottom of my rain fly, you can see it matches up yellow with yellow. It is the same thing as before I put on the rain fly. I can adjust it, put it on the bottom and then make it nice and snug. Ideally your rain fly, you are going to want to have the least amount of wrinkles in it as possible. Do up your doors and you have some stakes and this is what is going to make your rain fly work well. You want to stake your rain fly away from your tent trying to get rid of all the wrinkles in it, make it pretty bomber. There are several spots on each tent to do this. This sheds the water away from you when you are inside sleeping nicely and out away from your tent. I usually go around a couple of times just getting the stakes just the way I want them. The side is pretty taught. Just fasten the stakes all around your tent. There’s vestibules underneath your rain fly. Generally just want it to be able to shed the water away from you and your gear and this will protect you pretty much from rain and snow; it’s a three or four season tent. "
