"Hi, I'm John Millar, here with Expert Village to teach you how to punt a football. The next thing to talk about is kicking in windy conditions. It can make it really challenging for a punter to be consistent when the wind is blowing. It blows your drop and it blows your kick once it leaves your foot. If you have the wind at your back it'll help push the ball and make it little longer punt. Make sure you still kick it high enough so you don't out kick your coverage. If you're kicking into the wind there are some advantages. The wind will hold the ball up in the air a little and give you more hang time. But, it can kill your distance. So, one of the important things to do when punting into the wind is to lower your drop table a little. The more time the ball spins in the air between your hand and your foot it has a better chance to get blown around in the wind causing a bad kick. So, you want to lower your drop table depending on how windy it i. You want to release it a little later so there's less time between your hand and making contact with your foot. A cross wind is the hardest. You're trying to drop it and it's blowing outside or it's blowing inside. Your foot ends up chasing it or missing the ball. All you can do is hold on to it a little longer, lower the drop table, and try to put the ball onto the foot as much as possible. You're still making contact with the sweet spot of the ball."
