" I'm Jodi Fisher with Jodi's Ski School in Orlando, Florida, and for expertvillage.com, I'm going to show what water skis are made of. First of all basically, generally the entry level of water skis, they are made of a fiber glass and resin composition. The more advanced skis move on to using carbon graphite. This is a much lighter, stronger material, has real good energy properties that help to create speed, but it is the strength of the material that is very important, because of the load and the forces that are put on these skis by the more advanced skiers. Obviously the jump skis, that are much longer to help generate the air form like an airplane wing, some of it is involved in the shape, but it is generally the very light carbon graphite materials that gives you the strength, the very, very light skis. Some of the core materials on the jump skis and the wake boards are actually an aluminum honeycomb material that they use in airplane wings: also very, very strong but very light to help you spend more time in the air jumping long distances and creating big tricks.
