" Hi, I’m Jim from Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this segment we’re going to be talking about fishing gear and especially fly fishing. One of the first questions to answer is the difference between a fly rod and other forms of fishing. You’ll know that the outset that I’ve got my glasses on and my hat. With most forms of fishing what we’re doing is we’re slinging out the weight of the lure. The weight of the lure itself, when you release the reel it pulls the line out, so it’s the weight of the lure in most kinds of fishing. With a fly rod it’s the weight of the line itself that pulls the fly through the air. So you can see that as I hold the fly line like this, the weight of the fly line is pulling the line right up through my hands, so it’s the weight of the lure, we’re slinging the weight of the line. "
