"Hi! I’m Jim Dowd with Zoar Outdoor for Expert Village to talk with you about fly casting and fly fishing. Hi, this is a short segment on fly tying tools that you might find useful. If you decide to take up fly tying and have a traveling case that you can bring with you wherever you go to match hatches and come up with flies, that will serve you well. The first and most important tool that you need is a vice. This particular vice is a pedestal vice which comes apart like this and can be used pretty much on any flat surface. The tools that you will need to go along with are, I find a magnet to be very helpful because you can pick up flies and pick up hooks if you drop them, a needle that you can use to pick out materials, and as a general tool and good scissors that you get from a sewing shop. This is for moving dental floss through your teeth, but I also use it for threading a bobbin with thread. You can use different colored thread to match different kinds of flies. This happens to be Danville Fly Master Plus in gray, so in the case of the fly that I am going to tie, it is going to be gray. I just put the thread through here, draw it out and it is good to use. Also, something called a hair stacker which is used for dry flies and evening up the tips of deer hair and so on. So these simple tools will serve you well in fly tying. "
