"Hi! I’m Jim Dowd at Zoar Outdoor. I’m here on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk with you about fly casting and fly fishing. Sometimes when you are fly fishing, you will encounter a situation where a cast over your dominant shoulder just isn’t possible to make a presentation into a fish. This might be a bend in the river, might be the way the wind is blowing, it might be any number of things, but those are the two most common situations. In those situations, casting over the opposite shoulder is a very useful skill to have. All you have to do for the same casting technique is rotate. So open your hand, the reel goes up and you continue your casting movements. Same as before: part 4 cast pick up, back cast, forward cast and presentation. The rod tip just simply rotates over your opposite shoulder, and what this allows you to do is make the same presentation, the same stroke mechanism without having to change hands. It is a very useful skill, but it is one that you really do need to practice: same movement, same stops, same pause, same loop control. You just rotate, raise the reel, open your hand and continue. Casting over the opposite shoulder is a great skill to have in your fishing inventory. "
