"I’m Jim Dowd with Zoar Outdoor. I’m here on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk with you about fly casting and fly fishing. Accuracy is a hallmark of fly fishing. The ability to make the proverbial cast into a tea cup is not over rated and anybody can do it. There are 4 simple things you should have to keep in mind. The first thing is that when you are aiming at a particular target, your back cast has to be 180 degrees directly opposite the target. What this does is it sets you up for a smooth precise forward stroke that delivers the fly right down the line at your target. So aim your back cast to 180 degrees away from the target. The second rule or guideline is the power of the thumb. The thumb is just like a rifle sight. You have a 180 degree back cast, and aim your thumb right at the target and your line on the forward cast will rifle shot right to your objective. The third rule or guideline is to maintain a tight loop. What the tight loop does is it keeps the momentum of the cast very compact and carries forward everything in a direct line at the target. The fourth rule is the easiest rule and that is to practice. Practice, practice, practice. Accuracy is a result of good habits and practice. Burn this into your neuron pathways and you will become accurate. "
