"Track and Field is a sport that is over two thousand years old and has its routes in Ancient Greece. In 1776 BC the first Olympic games was held in Olympia, Greece and consisted of only a 600 meter foot race. This foot race continued to be the only event for the next thirteen festivals and after that other events were added such as various foot races and the pentathlon. Track and Field was introduced to the United States in the 1860's. The first collegiate race was held in 1873 and in 1888 the first national collegiate race was held. Track and Field continues to be a popular sport today, internationally, and continues to be a favorite in the Olympic games and is a very popular sport amongst high school and collegiate athletes.
