"Hi, I'm PGA member Jay Golden, on behalf of ATAP and Expert Village, the short game. The sand shot. The buried sand shot. Oh my gosh. You hit a pretty good shot, it's a little short -- boom. Very easy. Into an uphill lie on the lip. Tough shot -- not as tough as you think if you use this method. Instead of starting with a square club face, close the club head 45 degrees and instead of a normal swing, you're actually almost throwing the ball out. As Bill Nary, who shot a 60 on the PGA tour -- Ben Hogan called him the best sand player on tour in the 50s -- he said this shot is almost illegal. You scoop it out. You throw it out. It's like an ice cream scoop. You scoop it. When you come through the ball, instead of swinging, this is the action: one, two, one, two, and this is it. Close that clubface so much. That clubface is aiming almost at my left foot. Right here -- in, throw it out. Scoop it out. Scoop it out. The total buried shot. Start out with that clubface this closed, scoop it out. Not that tough. If you use that method, the Bill Nary buried ball method from the trap. More tips like these right here on Expert Village."
