"Hi, I'm PGA member Jay Golden, and on behalf of ATAP and Expert Village, it's the short game. We're on the fringe. We're not on the green. There are a lot of people who will just grab their wedge or 7-iron -- I say the first question you ask yourself if you're not on the green -- can I putt? And if the answer is yes, you should putt. And you should practice putting from off the green. Very rarely will you see anyone practice putting from off the green. They call it the Texas Wedge, because in Texas sometimes they'll put from 10-20 feet off the green. At the British Open you've seen them sometimes putting from thirty yards off the green, because it's hard. It's level. And the ball will roll. My ball is not on the green, but I'm going to putt. I'm going to putt -- try to get the right distance. Gosh, I could do this one hand; eyes closed, and hopefully hit a decent shot. It wasn't great, but it was better than a bad wedge shot. When you're off the green, the first question you ask: can I putt? Practice it and more times than not, the answer will be yes and you'll be better from just off the green. We'll have more tips like these rights here on Expert Village."
