Hitting Out of a Sand Trap for Left-Handed Golfers

"Hi! I am Jason Wyatt head golf professional here at Sunningdale Golf and County Club and on behalf of ExpertVillage.com, I would like to welcome all you lefties to watch me how to learn golf shots. Today we are going to hit a bunker shot. This is a tough shot in golf actually for not only for lefties but for righties. Whatever tense you do it go to your nearest bunker where you can practice. Take your lob wedge or sand wedge, I would like to draw a straight line from the target all the way back past the golf ball, then I would like to draw another line on an angle to that and that is going to be your foot angle, what we are going to do is we are going to set up, again we talked about our flop shot having an open stance, we are going to have an open stance again in the bunker, dig in with your feet to make sure you get the consistency feel the sand whether it is a hard packed sand or really fluffy sand, we are going to open up our club face so that we get the ball up nice and high. Now something different than a normal golf shot, we hit a golf shot, we intentionally hit the golf ball with the golf club, hitting a sand shot, we do not actually hit the golf ball, we hit two inches behind the golf ball and the sand actually feeds the ball out onto the green. A misconception a lot of you have is that they have to hit the golf ball with the sand wedge to get it out where you do not, let the sand put the ball out of the bunker. So once again I am going to dig in, open my club face and now I am going to swing across my body line again or cross that other angle that I was showing you, this will allow the ball to pop up nice and high, dig in, set up, and two inches behind the ball and make sure you finish your swing, you will follow through. When you follow through this will help to get the ball up in the air. I have seen a lot of people not follow through, they dig into the sand, and the ball goes. Make sure you make that follow through. So use these tips and you will hit better bunker shots."
