Summary: Learn how to use a paddle float to rescue yourself in this free sea kayaking video clip.
"In this clip were going to show you a way to rescue your self once you have fallen in the water. There is several different techniques and the one that were going to show you now is called a paddle float rescue. Russel is going to capsize come out of his boat and use a paddle float inflated on the end of this paddle to get back in his boat. Whenever your ready Russel. He removes his spray skirt floats out nice and calm. And there he is. So his next step is to turn the boat over and he has his paddle float already in the cockpit of the boat. It's partially inflated so if your paddling by your self that?s ideal to keep it like behind you seat or in a knee tube. Somewhere you can get it quickly. You inflate it and this is going to serve as an outrigger for you to give you more balance as you get into your boat. This is definitely worthy of practicing before you really need it so many people have gone out and capsized and have not practiced this and got into some real trouble. So Russel is in the water and what?s most important is that your hand the boat and the paddle stay in contact throughout this whole procedure. So first he floats his leg up and pulls his body up and puts both legs up on to the paddle float. One and two. He puts the inside leg in first turning to the stern reaches around grabs the paddle shaft before removing that leg and here?s a key point he is going to look a t this paddle float now not take his eyes off of it until he is in his boat. There you go. You will look continuously at the paddle float because this forces you to put your weight and balance on it if you look away you will do what we call the yellow rainbow and you will fall in on the other side. So this is a paddle float rescue."
