"JASON SHERIDAN: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Jason Sheridan of Sheridan Fencing Academy here in New York City. Today, we're going to talk about advanced sabre fencing. The secret to being able to really control your opponent is to able to combine the short and the long distance defenses so they're never quite sure what you're going to do and what distance you're going to do it in. Here, you're going to see one side again attacking, the other side varying the distance, sometimes a little closer, sometimes a little further, and using the appropriate defense to be able to surprise your opponent and get the touch. Here was attack in preparation. Notice that she's starting to close and then making longer distance, lots of changes that allow her to do counterattack. Here, because she started very close and then got a longer distance, she thought the attack should be close and was surprised by the counterattack, and finally a parry-riposte."
