"JASON SHERIDAN: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Jason Sheridan of Sheridan Fencing Academy here in New York City. Today, we're going to talk about advanced sabre fencing. Because what makes slide work is your ability to perceive what your opponent's doing. It's important to practice starting the slide and watching your opponent, not knowing what she will do next. Watch carefully as my fencer on the right begins slide, not knowing if her opponent will jump back or try to hit her in preparation. When she jumps back, the attack is longer. When she tries to hit her in preparation, the attack is shorter. If at any point she makes a mistake, it will be clear because it will be a point against her. Go again. She does not know which she will be facing. Okay, try to even be in earlier if you want to hit her in preparation. Let's try it again. Notice every time she's starting very slowly. The rhythm doesn't have to be accurate but she's starting very slowly. This time, the attack was little too late. One more time, excellent."
