"JASON SHERIDAN: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Jason Sheridan of Sheridan Fencing Academy here in New York City. Today, we're going to talk about advanced sabre fencing. A very helpful kind of footwork that's often used in sabre fencing these days, especially in women sabre fencing, is called the slide. Watch very carefully, a slide is a kind of step forward in which you start very slow with the front foot and pull the back foot in very slowly. You can even come in at that point come to a half forward or a lunge depending on what we're doing. The goal here is to continue the forward movement but being slow enough and cautious enough so you have to watch your opponent as you do it. Watch carefully. On my right, this fencer will make slide while the other just makes a very quick attack with advance lunge. Because she's making the slide, she'll see the attack coming and make it short and take over. And take over. The alternative could easily be, she gets in too close, and [PH] Emma, seeing she's coming too close, makes the attack very early off the slide. Go ahead, very good."
