Using Snake Bore Tool to Clean the Barrel of a Rome 22caliber Revolver

"Now what we're going to do is, we've got everything scrubbed down on the frame and on the cylinder and on the pin. Now what we're going to do is, we're going to actually clean the inside of the barrel. Now, first thing I like to do, is I just take out the bore snake here, which has just been a great innovation of technology. It's almost a one-step cleaning. I'd almost argue that you wouldn't have to use this more than two or three times in the barrel. But what we're going to do is, is you can see right here on the bore snake, we have a pull string, we have a brass plate, which is going to help us drop it through the barrel, and then the string is going to attach to the swab right about three or four inches in these little brass brushes. And that's the cleaning part, or the scrubbing part, of this bore snake. And then we have about sixteen inches of swab after that, which is going to help wipe out all the dirt and grime. What I like to do is, right in between the brushes and where this pull string attaches to the swab, I like to fold that area in half right there. And I'm just going to take my Hoppes Number Nine and with my area that's folded right here, I'm going to tilt this up and I'm just going to dip just a little bit on that swap. I'm not going to overdo it. And if you feel like you get a little extra, I just kind of wipe it into the lid of the Hoppes. You can see a little bit of discoloration there, that's our wet part, or the Hoppes. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to undo this, I'm going to kind of get it lined out, ready to pull through and from either the left or the right side, I just, preference, I come through the right side because I just left this loading gate down. And I just stick that brass weight down the barrel and you can see it coming out here. And I'm just going to pull the string out and I'm basically going to get prepared, and there we are. You'll feel a little bit of tension when you get ready to do this and I just kind of line this out, then I just hold on to the frame and I do a one finger or a two finger wrap with it, with the bore snake, then I just start to pull through. And there we are right there. That's a wipe through. And then what I'm going to do next is I'm actually going to take my bore light again and I am going to look inside the barrel and see if I can't find or see a pit, possibly there's pitting in the barrel, which you'd want to get a gunsmith or somebody else to look at that. But mostly what I'm doing with the bore light is I'm going to look and see if there's any residue, copper, lead jacketing, and black powder."
