Brushing the Lower Assembly of a Springfield XD 9mm Handgun

"Here we are with our frame, I have our nylon brush here, and I'm actually going to end up using my brass brush as well. First, I'm going to take my nylon brush and I'm going to start up here in the front. I know that this is Polymer up here, but remember I put a little bit of Break Free on my serial number tab. I'm just going to scrub around with that. Get that cleaned up real good. That's just personal preference. That's part of what I feel is a good maintenance tip. Alright, now that I've got that cleaned up I'm actually going to pick up my brass brush now and I'm going to really touch and scrub right here where the barrel sits into the frame. You may even be able to see how that's starting to discolor from yellow to black and brown. There's about three different colors here and what that is is we're really, that Break Free had all day to sit in, we're really able to get a lot of that dirt, grim, and build up out of it, out of the firearm right here, out of the seating area. Just kind of working lightly across it and I'm going to do the same thing along the front, inside here, brass brush. Make sure we catch the front of the seating area. Alright! Now that we have this seating area all scrubbed up what we're going to do is we're going to move our way back here into where our trigger assembly and our hammer and sear is back here."
