"JASON SHERIDAN: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Jason Sheridan from the Sheridan Fencing Academy here in New York City, and today, we're going to demonstrate some intermediate sabre fencing. The most basic way to protect yourself against someone's lunge, someone's attack, is by using your legs. Again, more important than how we use the weapon and saber, is what we do with the legs. Watch what's going to happen, one girl will make an attack, she'll make an explosive lunge, the other one will jump back to avoid the attack. Notice how she jumps back, she starts with the back foot first, pushes of the front leg, and again, ends in on-guard position. Watch as the other one attacks, excellent, completely clearing herself of the attack, making her safe. No blade was necessary. It is all a matter of using her legs to protect herself. Do one more. And it's very smooth and very relaxed. At no point during the jump does she tense up."
