"Every time you go on the river you should do an essential equipment check. I don't if you remember that from earlier. That's clip your helmet, zip your PFD, check you drain plug, and make sure your grab loop is out and accessible. We want to check this each and every time we get in and out of our boat. Not only do we want to check it for ourselves, we want to scan the other members of our group to make sure they've also done the equipment check. You'd be surprised on how many people forget because they ate lunch and they're tired or what not and forgot to clip their helmet or their PFD. You want to make sure that everyone's doing that. If you see somebody else on the river that doesn't have their helmet buckled or their PFD clipped up, it won't really hurt to actually say hey buddy, you might want to check your helmet. People will thank you for it in the end. I want you to really keep in mind not only do we have all those fancy throw ropes and rescue equipment that you want to do the simplest things. Those are the simplest things that usually are things that we forget. Make sure you check all those 4 things; your helmet, your PFD, your grab loop, and that drain plug if you have one."
