"Attaining is a great way to get boat control and boat sensitivity. What is attaining? Well attaining is moving upstream in your kayak. You may say how can I do that if the current is going down stream? Well you're going to use the back of these eddies to maneuver and get the next eddy. So you're just basically eddy hopping but in reverse. So you'd come up one eddy, look out for the next area, maybe ferry over and then get to the next one and keep moving upstream in that way. Some places are better than others to practice this attaining. Today the water is high so there's very few eddies exposed today, so attaining is a little more difficult. So one thing to keep in mind is just keep working those eddies and get river sense in where the flow is going. So just practice going upstream as well as down stream."
