"Hey this is Hugo at Expert Village. This segment is on feeding and foods for dove and quail. Now as a land owner or someone who leases land if you are hunting for dove or quail you really really will want to know what is the preferred food choice for that area. For dove, for instance, dove love any kind of grain foods. They like corn, Milo, and sunflowers. All kinds of combinations like that. You want to know that. Some foods are preferred in different areas of the country, or whatever country that you are in. You want to find out from your local experts what is the preferred food choice and then plan accordingly. You put it in fields; plant it. Remember you can't bring in bags of corn and dump it, that's illegal; that's baiting. What you can do however is plant corn, let it grown up and then bush hog it down. Dove typically like very clean fields, not a lot of stubble. I know another technique that has a lot of popularity is burning the field, get it real clean and then a lot of times they will come in and they can actually disc it or turn it over into the soil and bust it up. Also knowing when we are talking about feeding the birds they will need water as well. Knowing where the water areas are, where the ponds are that they are getting water and grain. A lot of times they will take little pebbles and put them in their crawl to help bust up the food too. For quail it is going to be the same thing; you want to know where the feeders are and where the different food sources and plots are. One of the best things you can do for dove and quail is to plant your own food plots for them. It will help the terrain and the land hold more of the quail and dove as well as help focus them in a feeding pattern that you can predict and that you can target them."
