Summary: Learn how to escape a sleeper hold & strangulation, in this free self defense training video.
" I’m going to demonstrate the difference between actual sleeper hold, most commonly known as the choke out, and a strangulation. The strangulation, when the arms are coming around, is actually compressing the windpipe this way and cuts off the entirety of the lungs, which could result in death. To go a choke out, he’s going to bring the biceps and forearm around, compress the carotid artery and the jugular vein, restraining the blood flow coming to and from the brain, causing one to pass out for about 3-6 seconds. This can also be enforced by additional pressure from the opposite hand, pressing the head down. We’re going to show an escape from a basic single bent arm choke from behind. As he’s coming this direction, most people mistakenly try to go towards the opening. That will actually tighten this up on my throat, as my shoulder pushes his arm into my throat even deeper. What I want to do is circle step. Bring my outside leg this direction and bring my opposite leg in here to off set his balance and bring him backward. We will demonstrate that once more. Again, against the choke hold from behind. I want to circle step with my left, come around with the arm, and this is going to unbalance my opponent as I step down and/or strike below the back knee. "
