" I’m going to demonstrate some of the black dragon stick defenses. Most martial arts have some techniques that mostly use a stick as a weapon, since it’s the simplest weapon found lying around. Not like they have to go into battle or anticipate attack situation or to grasp weapon. Make a stick out of many things available. When one is work in the yard, assailant comes up. In the Philippines, these are often called screamer, or collie sticks. Chinese term for it is dwon gun, meaning short stick. We’re going to do some dwon gun technique. First thing we’re going to do is we’re going to block outward against the strike. The opposite hand is coming to protect my throat. At this point, I’m grasping the assailant’s stick and pressing down using my own stick as the fulcrum and then striking back. I’m going to show you that first. What you want to do is bring your stick to my wrist. I’m going in this direction and the other hand protects your throat area. It shoots behind my stick. It’s going to come back here and you’re going to use this as leverage as you are pulling that down and out. Pry it against fingers, just pop that away from my grip, and bring either stick back across my wrist. Again, you’re snapping that up, this comes in, grabs, pulls down, and strikes. One more time, hit it, pop it out, and strike. I’ll have you do that, and I’ll stand back and watch this for just a moment. As he’s swinging the back in, block him like this, just protecting again. Pops the stick out, either stick returns with a shot. Now, we’ll get this away. Rather than the stick, your hand is becoming the sticks. We’re bringing the side of the hand into his wrist. I don’t want to block a weapon with my hand, so what I’m doing is blocking the stick with my hand and then a quick disarm. So as the stick is coming through this one protects my face from the vital. This is going to hit to the wrist and pop that out. Then counter strike with the stick, good. Lets try that one once again. Hand comes up, you want to strike the wrist, other hand. This hand is coming up here, this one comes in as protection, and then the protecting hand grasps the stick, pries it out, and counter strikes. The hand will open up with finger side back hand roll. Even if someone is much bigger, if I’m trying to pry here this is going to open up. If they’re actually prying against my fingers, when I go like this, and prying is my fingers, this side will open. It’s a matter of leverage, body science rather than just brute force. Okay, lets try that one more time from this angle. Block comes in, this hand goes up to protect, disarm, and counter strike. "
