In the section that we're going to do here, we're going to use a football, a frisbee, a medicine ball, and a tennis ball just to demonstrate that a lot of the skills that you may have can be incorporated in tennis. So the thing that I want you to think about a lot, it's called a hip-shoulder turn. So the hip-shoulder turn means that when you take a medicine ball, you're going to use your body to throw it, and that generates. And so if you think about the tennis swing, this is very similar to a forehand and this is very similar to a backhand because the power for your stroke comes from your body, not from your hands and arms. Now some of my favorite ladies that I used to coach were in their seventies and eighties, and they would poke at the ball. So I got them using this medicine ball. A, they liked doing it. It was a good workout for them. But they started understanding how to hit the ball better by using the medicine ball. Okay now a lot of you may have grown up playing a little bit of football. So the service motion is just like throwing a football. So as you can see, that when you have the racket here or the football, and you throw it, it's very similar. So if you know how to throw a football, you can learn serving a lot faster than you'd think. And the other thing is that a lot of people, maybe they get bored with tennis. If you have kids, they might not want to do tennis all the time. So you can do other things with them that will train them how to play. So half the time is fooling them a little bit. The other thing is a frisbee. Your backhand is very similar to a frisbee toss. So if you go out and throw the frisbee, A) you develop hand-eye coordination from throwing the frisbee, and you're doing something different that's a lot of fun, but it does develop the backhand because as you can see, throwing the frisbee looks very similar to hitting the backhand. And last but not least, is just playing simple catch. So if you throw a ball, you're going to learn how to catch, you're going to learn to watch, you're going to move your feet. So all these things, this idea that you have to focus on one sport like a maniac, I think is not so true. I think if you play a lot of sports, you're going to pick up what you need. So soccer, a lot of the best tennis players in the world are soccer players. They play basketball, they lay other racket spots. Ping pong, badminton, squash, you name it. So enjoy what you do. Use other sports to help train you and have a good time.
